When alien invaders capture Earth’s superheroes, their kids must learn to work together to save their parents — and the planet.

Director Robert Rodriguez brings us another fun filled adventure film for the entire family with We Can Be Heroes. In fact, the film shares a couple of characters from Rodriguez’s previous family super-hero film, The Adventures of SharkBoy and LavaGirl in 3D, including Taylor Dooley returning as Lavagirl. Whether this is meant to be a sequel to the previous film, Rodriguez is keeping it vague, merely responding that “It could be”.

While a lot of the details of the upcoming film is still not known, what we do know is the basic premise of the film: When alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their kids are whisked away to a government safe house. But whip-smart tween Missy Moreno will stop at nothing to rescue her superhero dad, Marcus Moreno . Missy teams up with the rest of the superkids to escape their mysterious government babysitter, Ms. Granada . If they’re going to save their parents, they’ll have to work together by using their individual powers — from elasticity to time control to predicting the future — and form an out-of-this-world team. While most of Missy’s friends have already developed their powers, from reversing time to elasticity, Missy has yet to discover hers.

Most of the character names have, as of this writing, yet to be revealed, we do know who will be starring in the film. Pedro (The Mandalorian) Pascal will be portraying Marcus Moreno, a member of the superhero team known as The Heroics, with Yaya Gosselin as his daughter, MIssy. Christian (Mr. Robot) Slater plays the heroic Tech-No. Priyanka (Baywatch the Movie) Chopra plays the “Babysitter’, Mrs. Granada. Haley (F Is For Family) Reinhart is in the film as Ms. Vox. Brently (Friday Night Lights the series) Heilbron plays the character Crushing Low. Isaiah Russell-Bailey plays Rewind (and if you watched the trailer, you already know what his powers are). Brittany (13 Reasons Why) Perry-Russell plays Red Lightning Fury. Jamie Perez plays Invis-Girl. In the Sharkboy/Lavagirl family, Vivian Lyra (Birdbox) Blair plays Guppy, the daughter of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. J.J. Danshaw appears as a stand-in for Sharkboy, wearing a mask to cover his face. It’s the filmmakers hope that the original Sharkboy, Taylor (Twilight Saga) Lautner, who was too busy to appear in the film, will be able to return in a potential sequel. Christopher (Ballers) MacDonald, Adriana (Thor) Barraza, Boyd (Logan) Holbrook, Sung (Fast 5) Kang, and Andy Walken will also be appearing in the film.

The film is written and directed by Robert Rodriquez. Netflix will release the film around the Holiday season. Ben Ormand and Tom Proper serve as producers of the film.

BTW, should that be Sharkman and Lavawoman by now?

If you are continuously looking for films to watch with the entire family, especially the little ones, this might be a good choice. As we run across more updates regarding the film, we’ll keep you up to date.
