Have You Seen The New Trailer For “Ralph Breaks The Internet”?

The first full trailer for Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet has been released.  It’s guaranteed to whet your appetite for the movie (scheduled to be released November 21).

Wreck-It Ralph, the good-hearted villain from the Fix-It Felix, Jr. video game, and his young friend Vanellope von Schweetz, from the game Sugar Rush, find a wi-fi router in their video game arcade.  They enter the Internet, where they “encounter new customs, worlds, and characters, such as trendy algorithms and the Disney Princess lineup with The Muppets, Star Wars, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Comics and Pixar characters.” This being Ralph, who breaks almost everything he touches, and Vanellope who is famous for defiantly proclaiming, “I’m not a Glitch; I just have pixlexia,” misadventure follows them as surely as ants follow a picnic.

The cast is superb.  John C. Reilly (Kong: Skull Island, Guardians of the Galaxy) returns as Ralph and Emmy-winner Sarah Silverman (Bob’s Burgers, I Smile Back) as Vanellope von Schweetz.  Jack McBrayer (The Middle, Phineas & Ferb) and Jane Lynch (Criminal Minds, Angel from Hell) are back as the newlyweds Fix-It Felix, Jr and Sgt. Calhoun.  Also returning is Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Powerless, Rogue One), but not as King Candy.  Instead, he will be voicing the search engine KnowsMore.  New to the cast are Gal Godot (Wonder Woman) and Taraji P. Henson (Hidden FiguresPerson of Interest).  Godot plays Shank, a racer from the dangerously violent video game Slaughter Race.  Henson is Yesss, an algorithm who measures trending videos.

In the course of the movie, Vanellope meets the Disney Princesses.  Anna and Elsa of Frozen, Rapunzel from Tangled, Merida from Brave, Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Jasmine from the Aladdin trilogy, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Moana are all voiced by the original actresses from their movies.  The roles of Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella have been recast.

One of the best scenes in the third trailer is Vanellope, who is technically a princess herself, hanging out with the Disney Princesses.  When Merida’s accent is difficult for Vanellope to understand, the other princesses explain discreetly that they have trouble understanding her, too, because “she’s from the other studio” (i.e., Pixar).

The most intriguing difference between this and the first trailer is Shank. Is she a villainess?  Is she a rough-around-the-edges friend, like Peg in Lady and the Tramp?  Is she a possible love interest for Ralph? Disney hasn’t shown enough of her yet to be able to judge.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 is currently in post-production.  It will be released November 21, the day before Thanksgiving.  Why not avoid the chaos and crowds of Black Friday and go to the movies instead?
