We’ve told you about Dwayne Johmson’s upcoming film, Black Adam – now the ongoing saga of the film’s production is decorated with the news that that Pierce Brosnan (Remington Steele, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Mars Attacks!, Quest for Camelot) has been cast in the mysterious and powerful Doctor Fate in Black Adam.
It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic lineup for the other roles: Aldis Hodge will be playing Hawkman. Noah Centino will be Atom Smasher. Quintessa Swindell will be Cyclone. Marwan Kenzari (Jafar in Aladdin, Druses in Ben Hur, Malik in The Mummy) and Sarah Shahi (Sameen Shaw in Person of Interest, Killer Frost in Young Justice: Terrors) have also been announced as being in the movie along side Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as Black Adam, although their roles have not been specified.
Irish-born actor Pierce Brosnan will be playing Kent Nelson, alias Dr. Fate. Not unlike Firestorm, Doctor Fate is a partnership rather than a single person. When Kent Nelson wears the Helmet of Nabu, he hosts the spirit and powers of an ancient wizard and becomes the magical superhero known as Doctor Fate.
Wearing the cloak, amulet, and helmet of Nabu, Doctor Fate is a master of magic with countless abilities up his sleeve including flight, strength, telepathy, flame spells, and countless other powers. There’s limitless possibilities for the character in live-action on the big screen so director Jaume Collet-Serra will have plenty to throw at the titular Black Adam. It was previously reported that DC and Warner Bros. had “big” plans for the Doctor Fate character.
Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman created Doctor Fate. The character made his first appearance in More Fun Comics #55 in May 1940. Nabu fights for the cause of good but can veer towards an extreme “lawful good” philosophy, prizing cosmic order above compassion for those beings living in the universe. Given that Black Adam plays outside the rules and Doctor Fate does as well, putting the two together might be like mixing matter and anti-matter,
The Black Adam movie has been delayed several times due to the pandemic. It should be released sometime in 2022, although no specific date has been announced yet.
