Famous last words: “I think it’s asleep.”

Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX® film technology.

The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX® film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

The film’s produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy. The executive producer is Thomas Hayslip.

The Odyssey stars a cast of genre veterans. Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o feature, with Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

Curiously, they tout the use of IMAX technology for the film, even though it’s being released on Netflix and not in theaters. This must be some new aspect of IMAX that does something interesting with streaming, because IMAX up to now has been a theatrical release format exclusively. What on Earth could they be doing with it on Netflix? We’ll find out, May 21, when it drops.
