The original stars of Practical Magic return for a sequel to the now-classic romantic comedy fantasy film about magic, friendship and accidental mayhem.
A multi generational family of witches, cursed to be loveless for centuries, attempts to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and sacrificing for each other. The film stars Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing and Diane Wiest reprising their roles from the original 1998 film, and joined by Maisie Williams as the youngest member of the clan.
1998’s Practical Magic’s ending seemed to show that Sally and Gillian break the dreaded family curse by embracing their magic, and Sally can finally be with her love interest, Gary, as Gillian rids herself of her abusive ex-boyfriend Jimmy. However, the teaser clearly indicates that the curse is far from over, and the danger is alive and well more than ever for the Owens family. If they wanted to do a sequel, this is the path they would have to take, really, or there’d be no story. The whole point of the thing is “curse versus family”.
Practical Magic 2 is directed by Susanne Bier, from a script by Akiva Goldsman, Alice Hoffman and Georgia Pritchett. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are on the roster as producers. Warner Bros. Pictures has the release date set for September 11, 2026.
