Movie Review | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Cowabunga! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back with a splash in the new animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. This reboot breathes new life into the beloved franchise that has been thrilling fans since the 1980s.

When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird first dreamed up the crime-fighting turtles named after Renaissance artists, little did they know their creation would morph into a worldwide phenomenon spanning comics, cartoons, movies, video games, and merchandise galore. After several live-action film revamps in recent years, the heroes in a half-shell return to their animated roots with this latest adventure.

Mutant Mayhem stays true to the core four reptilian brothers – Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo – while giving the franchise a modern upgrade. When a mysterious crime wave hits New York City, the Turtles leap into action despite their father Splinter’s warnings. Teaming up with human April O’Neil, they vow to take down the villainous Superfly and gain acceptance in a world that shuns them.

Packed with humor, heart, and radical animation, Mutant Mayhem is a rollicking adventure perfect for longtime fans and a new generation of shell-shocked viewers. The stellar voice cast, including Jackie Chan as Splinter and Ice Cube as Superfly, adds extra zip to the expanded cast of characters. While the animation can be rough at times, it ultimately captures the manic spirit of the Turtles and allows the personalities of each brother to shine through.

Mutant Mayhem proves there is still mutations worth exploring in the TMNT universe. Cowabunga indeed! This loving update is a must-see for Turtle fans of all ages looking for a fun new take on the NYC-dwelling foursome we know and love.
