A little over two months after production begun on the third season of the hit superhero comedy series, Variety has brought word that the cast for HBO Max’s Doom Patrol is expanding with the arrival of Michelle Gomez (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) in the villainous role of Madame Rouge.
Gomez’s Rouge is being described as “a complicated and electrifying eccentric who arrives at Doom Manor with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it.” The Scottish actress’ role in the series continues her powerful streak of work in science fiction and comics projects, and marks her latest appearance at the WarnerMedia streaming platform, with her most notable recent turns including Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as Madam Satan and HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant as Miranda Croft. And of course, sci-fi fans hold in great regard her memorable performance as Missy, the feminine incarnation of The Master on Doctor Who opposite Peter Capaldi.
Gomez recently starred as the deadly Miranda Croft in Season 1 of The Flight Attendant, a show that received multiple SAG and Golden Globe nominations. Gomez was also recently in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in the role of Madam Satan. Her other notable TV roles include The Brink, Gotham, Green Wing, and Carrie and Barry.
Doom Patrol was renewed for a third season at HBO Max in September. The live-action series first premiered in February 2019. It was originally developed for and streamed on DC’s online platform, DC Universe. The second season streamed on both DC Universe and HBO Max. With DC Universe moving out of original programming in preparation for winding down completely at some point, Season 3 will air exclusively on HBO Max.
The series stars Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor aka Negative Man, Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder aka the Chief, Diane Guerrero as Jane aka Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman and Joivan Wade as Victor Stone aka Cyborg. Together, these characters make up DC’s “strangest group of heroes,” as Warner Bros. calls them.
Doom Patrol is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson serving as executive producers. The series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.
The series is written by Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver and is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter. Berlanti, a master of superhero TV shows, has helmed series including All American, Arrow, Black Lightning, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Riverdale, Supergirl, Blindspot, God Friended Me, The Red Line, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, You, and Titans.
