Stargate: SG-1 Actor Obi Ndefo (Rak’nor) Loses Both Legs in Accident, But Not His Fighting Spirit

Up and coming genre actor Obi Ndefo survived a disastrous car accident which resulted in both of his legs being amputated above the knees.

Obi Ndefo is best known for playing the Jaffa rebel Rak’nor in six episodes of Stargate: SG-1. He’s also been a Klingon warrior in Deep Space 9, appeared on Joss Whedon’s Angel, and in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. He also played Pepper in the comedy/horror film Vampires in Venice, and guest starred on Third Rock from the Sun.

His non-genre roles include Bodie Wells on Dawson’s Creek, Sergio on Beauty and the Baller, and Mason Avery on The District.

He was hit from behind by a car in August as he was walking. After two surgeries, both his legs have been amputated above the knees. According to Gateworld.net, his friends and family have set up a GoFundMe campaign to pay his medical expenses, prosthetic legs, rehabilitation therapy, and remodeling his home to make it wheelchair-accessible. So far, more than a thousand donors have raised more than $140,000 in just over a week. Their goal is $200,000 or more.

Ndefo is maintaining a positive attitude. He taught a yoga class for special needs children. “Recently he has also been working on Juice Bar, a multicultural television series he co-created and is writing.” He is the founder of Arts Alliance for Humanity, a non-profit group that works on maintaining arts education in public schools.
