Will Robert Pattinson Be Batman?

Rumors are flying through Hollywood and across the Internet that British actor Robert Pattinson, who played Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise and Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is in negotiations to follow in the footsteps of Adam West, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck as the next Batman.

Although these rumors have yet to be confirmed, fans are already expressing their opinions as to whether Pattinson can do justice to the role. Most of the letters to the editor to Variety when they (prematurely) announced that Pattinson would be joining the DCEU as Batman expressed grave doubts as to Pattinson’s ability to handle the role.

Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will be directing and producing the new Batman movie, which may or may not be in the same continuity as Justice League and Dawn of Justice (but likely not). His Planet of the Apes colleague Dylan Clark will be co-producing the movie with him.

Although the starring role is not officially cast yet, and thus, rehearsals have not yet begun, Warner Brothers plans to release the movie June 25, 2021. Pre-production is scheduled to begin this summer.

Nicholas Hoult (Dr. Hank McCoy/the Beast in X-Men: Days of Future Past; Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road; J.R.R. Tolkien in Tolkien)is also rumored to be under consideration for the role.
