Ryan Potter Will Be Beast Boy In Live Action “Titans”

Ryan Potter will play Garfield Logan, aka Beast Boy, aka Changeling, in the live-action Titans show, Deadline Hollywood announced. The 22-year-old actor will play the green-skinned shapeshifter, who is the youngest of the Teen Titans.

As a child, Potter’s Garfield “Gar” Logan contracted the lethal disease, Sakutia, while on an African expedition with his geneticist parents. Treated with an experimental drug, Gar survived but not without developing some bizarre side effects.  Along with skin and hair turning permanently green, the wisecracking, fun-loving Beast Boy is able to reshape himself into any animal of any size he can imagine.

Ryan Potter got his start in Nickelodeon’s Supah Ninjas at the age of 16, playing Mike Fukanaga, grandson and student of Hattori Fukanaga, played by Star Trek‘s George Takei.  He is best known for voicing Hiro Hamada in Disney’s Big Hero Six.  He was also the voice of Fish in Throne of Elves and Riker in Disney’s Lab Rats: Elite Force.  Ryan was born in the USA, but spent his early childhood in Japan.  In addition to acting, he is skilled in baseball, martial arts, and stage combat.

Ryan will be co-starring in Titans with Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, aka Robin, aka Nightwing, leader of the Titans.  Anna Diop will play Starfire, aka Princess Koriand’r of the planet Tamaran.  Teagan Croft will play Raven, an empath who is half-human and half-demon.

Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly will play superhero duo Hawk and Dove. They’ll be recurring characters, “with an option to become regulars in Season 2 and possibly headline a potential spinoff series down the road.” Alan Ritchson is no stranger to superheroes:  he played Raphael in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Aquaman in Smallville.  He’ll be Hank Hall, aka Hawk.  In the comic books, Dove was Hawk’s brother Don. In Titans, Dove is Dawn Granger, played by Minka Kelly.  She was Det. Valerie Stahl on Almost Human.

Titans has a diverse cast.  Ryan Potter is half-Japanese and half-American.  Brenton Thwaites and Teagan Croft are Australian.  Anna Diop was born in Senegal, but has lived in the USA since she was six.  Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly are American.

Titans will debut in 2018 on Dc’s new digital streaming service.
