Look Out Internet, Wreck-It Ralph Is Coming Back

Disney has revealed the title for the sequel to the Oscar-nominated hit Wreck-It Ralph. At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Disney announced the new movie will be called Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be appearing in theaters on March 9, 2018. Disney also confirmed that many of the voice actors from the first movie will be returning. John C. Reilly, who played Hank Marlow in Kong: Skull Island, is currently filming the role of Dr. Watson in Etan Cohen’s new interpretation of Holmes and Watson. Reilly is reprising his role of Wreck-It Ralph, a bad guy who’s not really so bad.  Emmy-winner Sarah Silverman again provides the voice of Vanellope Von Schweetz. The voice of Felix will be provided by Jack McBrayer, who has also done cartoon voices for Smurfs: The Lost Village, Wander over Yonder, Emo Dad, and Phineas and Ferb. Jane Lynch will be reprising her role as Sergeant Calhoun. She is well known to Criminal Minds fans as Dr. Diana Reid, Spencer Reid’s mother, and to Glee fans as Sue Slyvester. Also returning to the video-game world of Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix, Jr. are co-directors Rich Moore (director of the original film and one of the writers) and  Phil Johnston (one of the scriptwriters on the original Wreck-It Ralph).

The original Wreck-It Ralph cartoon was nominated for 41 awards (including the Oscar, the Golden Globes, and the Saturn for Best Animated Feature) and won 33 awards (including five Annie Awards, five Behind the Voice Actors Awards, and the ASCAP Film and Television Music Award). The sequel has some big shoes to fill. Phil Johnston is looking forward to the challenge.

“We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again, and we have new characters we look forward to unveiling. At the center of this film, as in the first one, is the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope, two once-outcasts, who in each other, found true friendship.”

“To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore. Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way,” said co-director Rich Moore.
