Salt Lake City’s FanX convention’s security escorted Russ Adams, a makeup FX artist made famous by his appearances on Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, out of the convention. Adams was removed after a heated discussion he’d had with a convention representative when he claimed to have discovered by accident that the convention had allegedly misled him about the existence of a second-tier hospitality suite. Contrary to what Adams and his team had been told, there were allegedly multiple tiers of green rooms available for guests of the convention according to how famous the guests were. This was purportedly the culmination of a series of failures on the part of the convention to uphold promises of accommodations made to Adams and his fellow cast members. Instead of trying to make things right, FanX simply had Adams removed.

Adams, scheduled for several panels during the day, had his badge confiscated and his wrist band cut off before being escorted from the building, leaving his fans and co-panelists in the lurch. Adam’s cast members had purportedly been instructed by FanX event coordinators not to bring up his absence during the panels they were in, which would indicate that from the beginning they knew that this was going to be a severe public relations problem for them.

Adams and his team from Escape Design FX Studio had been donating their time and resources to provide content for the convention. FanX and its sister convention Salt Lake Comic Con are owned and operated by Dan Farr Productions, LLC of Utah. Representatives of Dan Farr Productions could not be reached for comment.

Tune in during the week for The Event Horizon to hear our exclusive interview with Adams. See our What’s On When page for airtimes.
