Star Trek Day is just a week away, so it makes complete sense for Paramount Plus to release another peek at Star Trek: Prodigy, the upcoming animated series from Nickolodeon about a group of young aliens who stumble across an abandoned Starfleet vessel and end up commandeering it to escape their war-torn world. Aboard is an emergency training hologram version of Captain Janeway, who introduces the newly minted young crew to the concepts and ideals of the Federation. If the music sounds above and beyond, it's because it was written by Academy Award winner Michael Giacchino, who wrote the scores for films like Star Wars: Rogue One and The Rise of Skywalker, along with the most recent three Star Trek movies. The title sequence clip debuted during Paramount+’s virtual Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation. Developed by Emmy® Award-winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”) the CG-animated series STAR TREK: PRODIGY is the first “Star Trek” series aimed at younger audiences and will follow a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek Franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents. In July, we got our first real look at Prodigy with the initial teaser, which introduced the crew and the USS Protostar NX76884, the training vessel they - um - "borrowed". The kids that make up its crew of intrepid young aliens includes a Brikar, a Medusan, a Tellarite, a Vau N’akat, a character of unknown species, and an indestructible blob (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker). And, of course, there’s the Janeway hologram, voiced by Kate Mulgrew herself. Paramount Plus has been vague about when Prodigy will premiere—just that it’s coming this fall.
