by Michael Brown, staff writer Actor Peter Dinklage may be a fan-favorite on the HBO series Game of Thrones, but he's leaving Destiny fans with a bad taste in their collective mouths. Dinklage portrays, via voice acting, the Ghost, the tiny, floating, robotic sidekick of the game's player character, and the game's de facto narrator. But in a statement released earlier today by Bungie, the developer of the hit Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game, Dinklage will be replaced by Nolan North, who does the voice acting for Nathan Drake in the Uncharted video game series. North will take over the role of Ghost in the upcoming third Destiny expansion, The Taken King. “I was really excited to do this role," North said. “You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable. There’s a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it.” Not only will North play Ghost in the eagerly-awaited third expansion, but North is re-recording all of Dinklage's original dialogue to create a consistent storytelling experience. With the release of The Taken King, players will be able to hear North as the Ghost at the very beginning. “We wanted Nolan North’s version of the Ghost to wake you up at the start of the journey at level one and follow you all the way to level forty,” says Bungie's creative director Luke Smith. Fans of Destiny have long complained about Dinklage's voice acting of Ghost, calling it "lackluster" and "boring." It's even caused the Destiny fan community to rename the Ghost, calling it Dinklebot. Dinklage's acting was so poorly received in the original game that the Ghost had no dialogue at all in the first two expansions. But whether it was Dinklage, the writing, the directing, or the Ghost just not reaching its full potential in-story is hard to know. But Bungie is hoping that hearing a more emotionally engaged Ghost will keep current Destiny fans coming back for more, as well as bringing back dissatisfied players who left early on. SCIFI.radio tried to reach Dinklage for comment, but we understand he's having his own problems in Westeros.
