Earth is invaded by a swarm of sentient nanobots elephantine anthropoid laser-wielding space llamas who are friendly but incomprehensible even though they are radioactive who derive their sustainance by a crowd of people with pitchforks and torches , but scientists create a new weapon which does not work but they die from catching the common cold.
