From LAIKA, the studio behind Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings, and ParaNorman, comes Wildwood, an epic new fantasy adventure directed by Travis Knight. Produced by Knight and Samuel Wilson, it’s from a script by Chris Butler, Carson Ellis and Colin Meloy, and stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Prue, Jacob Tremblay as Curtis Mehlberg, and Cary Mulligan as Alexandra. Also on the cast are Tom Waits as Maxim, Angela Bassett as the General, and Awkwafina as Septima, among many others. It features a soundtrack by Dario Marianelli.
It’s Laika’s first PG-13 rated film. At two hours and twenty minutes, this is the longest stop motion animated film ever made.
The property was optioned originally in 2011, then re-optioned two more times. Development didn’t start until 2013, and preproduction didn’t begin until September of 2021. Filming began in Jamary of 2024, and post-production finished August 19, 2026. Production was originally planned for 2025, but was pushed back a year due to strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA)
