The trailer for Laika Studios’ newest stop-motion animated feature Wildwood shows us what the medium can truly be. Watch.

From the makers of Coraline, Wildwood is a sweeping, darkly magical adventure about Prue McKeel, a young girl who journeys into a hidden forest to rescue her younger brother. Along the way she encounters warring factions, extraordinary creatures, and a world unlike anything she’s ever known.
Part of the reason the works of Laika are as wonderful as they are, with apparently Wildwood included in this, is that the studio, for the most part doesn’t make money doing it, yet has the financial support it needs.
The studio is heavily funded by billionaire Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike, whose son Travis Knight runs Laika as its president and CEO. Because it’s privately funded by somebody with some very deep pockets, who simply loves the medium, Laika can operate with the goal of making good art instead of having to be slaved exclusively to their quarterly reports.
Directed by Travis Knight from a script by Cris Butler, Carson Ellis and Colin Meloy, Wildwood stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay and Carry Mulligan. It hits theaters on October 23, 2026.
