3d Animator Trevor Carlie brings us today’s Video of the Day. From Season 5, Episode 13 of The Rookie comes this ridiculous bit of musical falderol, but this time set entirely in the LEGO universe.
Nathan Fillion and co-star Alyssa Diaz portray Los Angeles Police officers John Nolan and Angela Lopez, on patrol who encounter a garage band that can’t resist poking fun at Officer Nolan.
Except, of course, it’s all in LEGO. It’s a shot by shot recreation, brilliantly done.

The animation was done in Blender, but other software included Mecabricks, Bricklink Studio, and various plugins for Blender to handle LEGO face and body rigs, and one that converts any geometry into a LEGO kit. Surprisingly, LEGO animation is popular enough with Blender users that they’ve gone to great lengths to enable it in their favorite animation software.
Blender, once considered an amateur’s toy, has developed now to the point where it is used on major theatrical releases, some of which even win major awards, like the animated feature Flow did in 2025.
The Rookie began its run on TV in 2019, and has had eight seasons so far, including 144 episodes to date. The ninth season debuts in early 2027.
