Two have died in a light aircraft plane crash in a field near La Baule Airport in France, with Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot among the victims. The wreckage of the plane is still in the field where it crashed as of Saturday morning, June 20th. The plane crashed crashed Friday afternoon, June 19, Loire-Atlantique firefighters announced. Upon their arrival at the scene, "the aircraft was on fire and the flames were spreading to the surrounding vegetation."
The mayor of La Baule, Franck Louvrier, indicated that it was "a Cessna 421, a twin-engine propeller plane with eight seats, which had departed from Rennes."
Claude Guillemot was one of the co-founders of the French gaming company Ubisoft in 1986 with his four brothers. Ubisoft has become one of the world's leading video game developers and distributors.
Ubisoft stated in a press release that it "learned with deep sadness of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the Group and President of Guillemot Corporation, in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."
The 69-year-old Breton businessman, who owned the aircraft, was expected this weekend in La Baule for a gathering of more than one hundred aircraft
