The Doctor rejoins us with new adventures, new mysteries and new bad guys in the new season of Doctor Who on the BBC, starring Ncuti Gatwa in the title role. The 30-second video opens with an ominous monologue in voiceover teasing that “there are forces beyond this universe” and while “this is all a game to them… the games are deadly.”
In addition to showcasing The Doctor and Ruby Sunday, the clips in the teaser include robots, astronauts descending on unknown terrain, and an eerie animated villain in addition to introducing new companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), who has apparently had serious second thoughts about travelling with the Doctor and demands he return her to Earth.
Also in the trailer is the myserious Mrs. Flood, played by Anita Dobson. In past episodes she has demonstrated deep knowledge of the Doctor and the existence of the TARDIS, even acting as a minion of Sutekh, the Egyptian god of death. Now that Sutekh is no more, what exactly is Mrs. Flood doing bopping around time and space on her own?
Yes, they’re starting over with the season numbers, marking a sort of rebirth now that Disney is partnering with Bad Wolf Productions to produce Doctor Who, so even though this is technically season 15 since the reboot in 2009, they’re calling this Season 2.
The new season of Doctor Who premieres in 2025, but as of this writing there is no hard premiere date for its first episode.
