The much anticipated fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is finally upon us, and we have the trailer to prove it.

In Season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” — subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford… if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all — their own career aspirations. This upcoming season is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
The Federation takes itself, on the whole, pretty seriously. Star Trek: Lower Decks parodies all the silly, goofy, stupid stuff in Star Trek without actually hating on any of it. It’s full of fan service and just plain funny stuff, especially if you are a hard core fan and get all the references.
Star Trek: Lower Decks streams starting October 24, 2024 exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. In Canada, it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel. The series will also be available to stream on Paramount+ in the UK, Canada, Latin America, Australia, Italy, France, the Caribbean, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland and South Korea.

Star Trek certainly has its humor, even in the original series. There’s the episodes *A Piece of The Action, I, Mudd, The Trouble With Tribbles.* Even mostly serious episodes like *The Naked Time* have their humorous moments. One of my favorite humorous lines is Dr. McCoy’s statement at the end of the dramatic *Journey to Babel*. Frankly, I think the use of humor even in serious stories is a part of what makes Star Trek great.
But I admit, when I first heard of *Star Trek: Lower Decks*? I was very surprised they’d go that far. I guess the series “boldly goes where no Star Trek has gone before!”
