We love music videos, the wilder the better. You start with great music; Gnome’s music video for The Ogre hits all our buttons.

It’s metal, but with saxaphones. It’s a story song, but without an ending (in the song itself, anyway, in the video they do manage to squeeze one in). From the moment this bunch of loser gnomes wake up in the middle of the forest to being chased and eaten by an ogre ten times their size, this remarkable music video delivers some amazing visuals. And, I have to confess, even with my personal background in feature animation, I can not for the life of me figure out how the animation was done. The models look like claymation, but move like motion capture sometimes, and like marionettes at other times. Some parts were probably animated by hand.

Music videos are always about the music, though, and Gnome doesn’t disappoint. After the animated sequence, when they emerge from the belly of the ogre, into a … forest? What happened to the Ogre? Never mind, it’s a music video. It doesn’t have to make perfect sense … we get an instrumental stretch that includes some really powerful saxaphone, which is something you don’t normally think about with respect to metal.

Anyway, you’re going to love this. It’s weird, it’s wild, and the music is something you can put on repeat.
