During the Disney Upfronts on Tuesday, Marvel revealed that Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ in March 2025 (the exact date with details about the upcoming release have not yet been announced). Filming on the series’ first set of 8 episodes was completed earlier this year, and star Charlie Cox confirmed the full production wrapped a couple of weeks ago. The production is quite a story.

Daredevil Returns

Daredevil, from Marvel Television and ABC Studios, premiered on Netflix in 2015 and lasted for three seasons, until 2018. The show had been approved for a 4th season but Disney wanted to make their own Marvel TV series. (The first was Falcon and the Winter Soldier). At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Disney/Marvel announced Daredevil: Born Again would be a new series that continued with the same cast as Daredevil (the Netflix version).

Filming on Daredevil: Born Again initially began in February 2023 in New York City. However, production was halted in June due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. At that time, Marvel Studios began reviewing the footage that had already been shot for the series, with sources reporting that studio president Kevin Feige was not pleased with what he was seeing. The writers and directors were let go, and new writers and directors brought on. Born Again resumed filming in January 2024, with Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) now attached as showrunner and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Loki) tapped as directors.

The reset brought the return of supporting cast like Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Jon Bernthal will also reprise his role as Frank Castle. Also, the previous Netflix/Marvel shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders) were officially added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (sacred) timeline. People who claim to have seen the footage say it’s an amazing recreation of the Netflix series, with more blood and action, which is a surprise for Disney.

The storyline is still under wraps, but we know that Born Again will show Matt Murdock/Daredevil facing-off against his old nemesis the Kingpin, who we last saw rushing back to New York in the season finale of Echo. The new logo is a cool optical illusion! The letters alternate between dripping blood and skyscrapers.
