British actor Ian Gelder has passed away. Gelder died of complications from bile duct cancer on 6 May 2024, at the age of 74. Most recently best known to us as Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones, he also played a variety of other roles near and dear to the geeking community.
He played Mr. Dekker in Torchwood and guest starred as Zellin in the Dr. Who episode, “Can You Hear Me?” with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. In the 2009 BBC series Robin Hood, the one starring Jonas Armstrong as Robin, Gelder guest starred as Archbishop Walter. He also played Librarian Scholar Charles in the television adaptation of His Dark Materials
Ian Gelder was born June 3, 1949. He and actor Ben Daniels were domestic partners from 1993 to 2024. Ben Daniels played General Merrick in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).
Gelder was nominated for the BloodGuts UK Horror Award in 2022 for Best Actor in an Independent Feature for his performance as Terry Vaughn in Dark Ditties Present Dad. Gelder’s final performance will be as Dr. Kenneth Hetherton in Benoit, which is currently in production.
