David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprise their roles in three upcoming Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials, and we are here for it.
The Doctor is back in an old face. He has unfinished business, and Donna is part of it.
We also have three titles, all three episodes written by returning showrunner Russel T. Davies, and produced by Vicki Delow and Chris May, and three quotes to live by until they show us more:
- Special One: The Star Beast, directed by Rachel Tataly — “Why did this face come back? To say goodbye?”
- Special Two: Wild Blue Yonder, directed by Tom Kingsley — Neal Patrick Harris is (we think) the Celestial Toymaker. “He’s here. Driving you mad.”
- Special Three: The Giggle, directed by Chanya Burton — which features Beep the Meep, a character we have not seen since its first appearance in a Doctor Who comic book in 1980 entitled Doctor Who and the Star Beast.
How will the Doctor pull off this escapade without Donna’s mind going up in flames from her fusion with the Doctor in Journey’s End? Why is the Star Beast on Earth? What does it have to do with the crashing spaceship? Why are Donna and her daughter involved?
Sorry. No idea at all. We’re just going to have to wait until the BBC releases more.
Murray Gold is back, composing the music for all three of these new episodes. The specials are meant to release in November of 2023.
