Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) discover that Skrulls have infiltrated the highest spheres of the Marvel universe in this six part mini-series on Disney+. So, not all the Skrulls are good guys as established in the movie Captain Marvel.

The series also stars Olivia Colman as Special Agent Sonya Falsworth, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Killian Scott as Fiz, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Rebel Skrull leader Gravik, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross and Don Cheadle as Rhodie (James Rhodes), and Emilia Clarke and Christopher McDonald in unnamed roles. We can guess from that that these last two actors are playing roles whose mere names would be major spoilers.

In the comics, “Secret Invasion” was a Marvel Comics crossover event that began in 2008. The storyline involved the infiltration of Earth by the shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls, who had replaced several key superheroes with Skrull imposters. The invasion was eventually foiled by a group of heroes led by Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. The storyline had significant ramifications for the Marvel Universe, including the death of several characters and the introduction of new plotlines.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invastion makes its debut on June 21, 2023.
