Photographer, filmmaker and self-avowed techie Phillip Steffen of Germany has created a love letter to both Legend of Zelda and the value of play itself.
The value of play is immense. It allows us to imagine ourselves in other worlds, other times and places, We get to explore our strengths and weaknesses, facing the challenges from while keeping our real selves in relative safety. These fantastic journeys remain a part of us, because they’re vivid in our memories, and those memories never leave us. A Link to the Future is a love letter to these adventures, and helps us remember the glory of play and how much it means to all of us.
Filmmaking for the international audience frequently coaxes the filmmaker to create stories that work despite having no spoken dialogue. This is frequently produces sparkling gems of the cinematic arts, stories that work across cultures and make language barriers irrelevant.
A Link to the Future was shot on a Red Komodo 6k digital camera by Steffen as a one-man crew, and employs Steffen’s son as a younger version of himself.
All in all, the film is charming, and well worth the few minutes run time. Enjoy.
