Disney’s ‘Dreamlight Valley’ MMO Hits 1M Players in First Two Weeks

Developer Gameloft has announced via Twitter that its newest title, Disney Dreamlight Valley, has reached 1 million players. The free-to-play game is in Early Access and first released on September 6.

“We’re overjoyed to see you discover what it means to live magically,” wrote Gameloft. “Thank you for your excitement, feedback and sharing the game with your friends. This is just the beginning!”

Dreamlight Valley is a life simulation game wherein players make their own homes and help Disney characters like Mickey, Moana, and Ariel, recover their lost memories by hanging out with them.

Early Access games frequently find quick success, but Dreamlight Valley went early access pretty much everywhere at once, which is unusual.

The popularity of Dreamlight shows that Disney is so rich in its own library of stories and characters that it can stand on its own in the gaming industry. In recent years they’ve made a lot of games based on Marvel or Star Wars, franchises they’ve bought rather than made, but this new game confirms that Disney can use what they made themselves and stand up with the best of them.
