First Look: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Saturday, July 24, Marvel Studios presented the trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at Comic Con in San Diego. And it’s nothing if not astonishing.

Set to close out Marvel’s Phase Four, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the follow-up to 2018’s Black Panther. Sadly, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020, following a battle with colon cancer, something the actor had kept very private. This film could be the most emotional Marvel film for fans.

Ryan Coogler returns as director, and at San Diego Comic-Con, paid tribute to the late actor, saying, “”The impact that he made on this industry will be felt forever.”

The late great Chadwick Boseman

The trailer, itself, is pretty powerful, with an emotional cover to “No Woman, No Cry”, and we see some of the returning cast members. They include Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, whose line in the trailer, “I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entire family is gone. Have I not given everything?” shows how powerful this film might be.

The film will also feature Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a character better known to comic fans as IronHeart, who will be getting her own Disney+ series next year, following the events of this film. As for the film’s antagonist, Tenoch Huerta (The Forever Purge) will be appearing in the film as Namor the Sub-Mariner, making the characters MCU debut.

Ryan Coogler made it clear that T’Challa will not be recast. To the cast and crew and even the fans, Boseman’s performance was one that can never be duplicated. How the story moves on, and how they honor Chadwick’s memory, we will have to wait and see.

As more details on the film become available, SciFi.Radio will bring them to you.
