‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Official Trailer

Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant star in this live-action epic fantasy film version of the Hasbro role-playing game. Game Night’s Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley direct. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves opens March 3, 2023.

Looking to rob a conman who stole all his loot, a thief gathers a party consisting of a barbarian, a wizard, and a druid to venture forth to foil the conman who now presides as the Lord of Neverwinter.

The fact that this production exists at all has its ramifications. Traditionally, Dungeons & Dragons movies sound like great ideas on paper (there have been six of them), but nearly all have been direct-to-video productions. The last time it was attempted theatrically, it bombed like nobody’s business.

Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop roleplaying game originally developed in the early 1970’s by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, originally published by Tactical Studies Rules (TSR), in 1974. The game’s ownership transferred to Wizards of the Coast in 1997, and that company was in turned purchased by Hasbro in 1999. That’s why you see references to Hasbro now when D&D appears in the news, and its association with Hasbro probably has a great deal to do with how this movie gots its funding.

However well the movie does once it hits theaters, it will almost assuredly reach instant cult status just because of its heritage, and the stars who appear in it.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was originally scheduled to be released May 27 of this year, but the scheduled has been pushed back to hit theaters March 3, 2023.
