Trailer Park: ‘The Orville | New Horizons’, Season 3

The Orville, headed by Seth McFarlane both on screen and off, is headed for its much anticipated Season 3 debut on the Hulu streaming service June 2. We’ve been waiting almost three years for this. It looks like it was worth the wait.

The stakes are apparently pretty high. The Orville must cross Krill space, but without their protection as they pass. The Kaylon, the last vestiges of an alien race who died at the hands of their own android protectors, are in hot pursuit. The Orville itself has had a major facelift, and the effects are top-notch.

All your favorite characters are back for the oddly foundationed sci-fi comedy action series, including Yaphit, voiced by Norm Macdonald, who passed away in September of 2021. All of his voice work for the episode had been recorded before he passed, so this is his final performance. There are currently no plans for a fourth season, but Macfarlane and the other actors have other projects going, and getting everybody back on deck would be a logistical challenge. The word is that most of the cast was released in August when their options expired, so it’s not impossible, but not overly likely either. One thing is certain, if there is an Orville Season 4, Macdonald’s character of Yaphit likely will not be along for the ride.

All hope is not lost, though. Season 3 is not designed as a series closer, so a Season 4 isn’t completely off the table.

Production on Season 3 of The Orville was disrupted by the pandemic. It will debut June 2 (originally announced as March 10), at the series’ new Hulu home, more than three years after Season 2 ended its run on The Orville’s original network, Fox.

The hour-long sci-fi adventure series is set 400 years in the future and follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.

The Orville is produced by 20th Century Television and Fuzzy Door Productions. MacFarlane executive produces with Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jason Clark and Jon Cassar.
