Taking advantage of the wild success of Spider-Man: No Way Home comes the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange and a direct follow-on to the events in the Spider-Man film currently in theaters.

When Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange tried to help Peter Parker with his blown secret identity problem and broke the Multiverse, there had to be consequences. There was a lot of speculation that Elizabeth Olson’s Wanda Maximoff from Wandavision would be crossing back over into the MCU where the character first came from in the first place, and that turns out to be completely true.

We also see a darker version of Doctor Strange himself, threatening the original. “I hope you understand. The greatest threat to our universe is you.”

The wild magical realms whose depictions were so common in the original comics were a strong part of the first Doctor Strange film, and we get more of the same here. Exactly what Strange and Maximoff are doing there and why are the bigger question.

The trailer originally was released as the final post-credit scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home earlier in December, but Marvel has now put it online for everyone to see.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
