Video of the Day: Cybertronic Spree’s Cover of ‘Barracuda’

SCIFI.radio fans know all about strange. Heck, it’s why you tune in every day, and why you come to the web site. This, however, is the Cybertronic icing on the Autobot Cake. Today’s offering is their produced-during-lockdown music video of their cover of Heart’s Barracuda. Don’t be fooled by the wild, colorful costumes. Cybertronic Spree dominates.

The Cybertronic Spree is a band of Transformers who perform whatever the hell they want, including 80’s metal, classic rock, classic cartoons, video game, and anime theme songs at full volume. Their metal anthems, based around the soundtrack from the 1986 animated film, The Transformers: The Movie, have since transformed into a one-of-a-kind live show that has audiences singing along.

It would be easy to dismiss Cybertronic Spree as a one-shot gimmick, but this isn’t amateur hour on the Internet. As musicians and performers, these bots are as good as it gets. From the first four bars, you’re immediately lost in the music. The bright pink Arcee can absolutely go toe to toe with Anne Wilson of Heart in this astonishing cover, giving an energy to this performance far greater than the sum of their parts.
