Video of the Day: Funk Turkey’s ‘I Wanna Be Like Weird Al’

Fannish musician and father of four Kirt Connor is perhaps best known to our listener audience as the creator of a number of our Videos of the Day having to do with The Mandalorian. His consummate musicianship and smoothly professional vocals make his work stand out as some of the best in the sci-fi music genre.

Today’s Video of the Day is more autobiographical in nature. It’s about midlife crisis and ambitious dreams; in it, Connor eats too much pizza, and gets thrown in a car trunk and left for dead in a ditch. It’s a parody of nu-funk guitar master Cory Wong’s Today I’m Gonna Get A Real Job.

It’s animated by the @zarkflappysheep, whose animation is simplistic, but right on the mark when it comes to storytelling and conveying emotion and humor.

“I Wanna Be Like Weird Al” is now streaming on Spotify, Google, Apple, and more- https://bit.ly/2SFDRIJ

Funk Turkey is a pseudonym and stage name of Arkansas parody/comedy musician and producer Kirt Connor. In August 2019, Funk Turkey produced a parody of Billie Eilish “bad guy” entitled “Dad Guy”, wherein he parodied the “dad type” that was mentioned in the original song. The resulting music video was a viral hit, with over 2 million views, and landed him on television, in articles by TIME, and a lot of questions about “what’s next?”

What’s next was a few million more views, a lot of parody songs, and some of the best stuff we play here on SCIFI.radio.

Kirt began playing instruments and singing at a young age. By his early teens, he was a talented multi-instrumentalist and performer, and showed other talents in acting and comedy. He spent most of his 20’s as a musical performer, culminating in an appearance as a finalist at the 2005 Country Colgate Showdown as a backing musician. Not content to just be a musical artist, he began incorporating his keen comedic talent into his music and now you’re reading this.
