Grudge the Cat Joins the Cast of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

Pets have been a part of human civilization since prehistoric times. One doesn’t need to be a Vulcan to realize that pets will continue to be part of our lives in the future. Star Trek has acknowledged this in the past with Data’s cat Spot, Jonathan Archer’s dog Porthos, and Miles O’Brien’s cat Chester. With season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery, Grudge the cat is joining that list.

Grudge is the pet cat of new cast member Cleveland “Book” Booker, played by English actor David Ajala (Manchester Black on Supergirl, Roy Eris in Nightflyers, Ibis in Jupiter Ascending, and Peter on the Doctor Who episode “The Beast Below”). Grudge herself is played by Leeu, a two year old Maine coon cat. Leeu has been praised by castmates as a “one-take wonder.”

Grudge already has its own Twitter account, @Grudge_cat, with over 1,400 followers, and an Instagram account @grudgecat.

Unlike Lt. M’Ress in Star Trek: the Animated Series, Grudge will be a pet rather than a crew member.

Grudge will be Book’s pet. David Ajala is supposed to be a series regular on Star Trek: Discovery, but so far all pictures of him have been in civilian clothes, not in uniform. Star Trek: Discovery is on the streaming service CBS All Access. The third season of Discovery is scheduled to be released October 15, 2020.

As cute as this furry, fluffy feline is, who wouldn’t want to hold this Grudge?
