One of the greatest names in animation is Glen Keane. With 37 years under his belt as Disney’s top animator, having worked on such films as The Rescuers, Pete’s Dragon, The Great Mouse Detective, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahantas, Tarzan and Tangled. Now he’s the head of his own production company, Glen Keane Productions – and for his first entry into the world of animation under his own banner, he is about to release Over the Moon on Netflix. It’s an original story about a young Chinese girl who builds a rocket and heads for space, hoping to meet a mythical Moon Goddess.

This music video features the voice of Cathy Ang, who plays the girl Fei Fei in the film. This feels like a Disney film, and plucks at all the right heart strings. Pause the SCIFI.radio music stream while you watch this, and have a look.

The film is a collaboration between Glen Keane Productions, Netflix, Janet Yang Productions, and Pearl Studios of Shanghai, China. The screenplay was written by Audrey Wells, and it was the last one she wrote before her death in 2018. The film will be dedicated in loving memory of her.

It’s also the first Pearl Studio collaboration not to be produced in conjunction with Dreamworks Animation (the first two they made were Kung Fu Panda 3 and Abominable).

Over the Moon is the third animated film on Netflix to be rated PG by the MPA, after Klaus and The Willoughbys.
