This video was specially created for #Clockdown, the worldwide tweetalong of the Doctor Who episode ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’ on Wednesday 6 May 2020, the 14th anniversary of its first broadcast.
Written by Steven Moffat and starring Sophia Myles as Madame de Pompadour, this video was home-produced remotely during the ‘lockdown’ period of the COVID-19 outbreak in April/May 2020.
As the COVID-19 virus sweeps back and forth across the face of the planet thanks to its being approximately 10 times more contagious than the influenza virus, the entertainment industry is hard pressed to stay active at all, let alone thrive. This is not only a hardship for the media creators, but for the fans as well. The BBC has been creating little vignettes, since full on production is impossible. These vignettes demonstrate just how powerful the medium truly is, wherein just a few minutes of storytelling can so fully transport us to another time, another place, and a completely other frame of reference.
