J. K. Rowling Donates One Million Pounds To Charity

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling

British author/philanthropist J. K. Rowling, CH, OBE, is donating one million pounds to charity. That’s roughly $1,250, 200 in U. S. dollars at the current rate of exchange. Half the money will go to help the homeless during the pandemic and half will go to help victims of domestic abuse.

According to canon in the Harry Potter books, the Battle of Hogwarts was May 2, 1998. Ms. Rowling, sometimes called the “Queen of Twitter”, usually tweets on May 2nd about her characters. This year, she pointed out that it would be in poor taste to “talk about fictional deaths today … [when] too many people are losing loved ones in the real world.”

In her private life, J. K. Rowling is the wife of Dr. Neil Murray. She may or may not have had Covid-19 herself, but if so, she is feeling better.

Cabin fever is hitting everyone hard. Domestic abuse statistics have risen frighteningly during the Covid-19 lockdown. If you are a survivor of domestic abuse in the USA, call  1-800-799-SAFE (7233). All calls are free and confidential. If you are a domestic abuse survivor in the UK, call 0808 2000 247.
