The Inner Rim Fashion Week was this week, and while most of us can’t get to the fashion district on Coruscant to shop the newest designs, hope is not lost.
Who among us hasn’t dreamed of sweeping down the street clad in luxurious and flowing Jedi robes, lightsaber at your hip, on your way to battle some Sith Lords? The look of Star Wars draws heavily from Japanese Samurai tradition. What if you could do what they did, and go back to the source?
Now you can. There is a fashion company named Wazigen Shizukaya, located in Kyoto, Japan, and their 2019 winter collection features amazing Samurai-inspired clothing that does not disappoint, harkening back to the same design influences that inspired much of the look of Star Wars.
You’d better be a well-to-do Jedi, though. Quality robes don’t come cheap.
Using the finest of silks, lace and, above all, wool, the avant-garde designs are both beautiful and warm. While the emerald green cloak inspires trips to Hogsmead, and the dark grey herringbone patterned cloak harkens back to Sherlock Holmes, it’s the dark grey, hooded robe (code: FSWC-19-10) that speaks to the Star Wars lover’s soul.
Samuri clothing is loose fitting, allowing for maxium movement in combat, and since George Lucas took much inspiration for the Star Wars universe from traditional Japanese culture and style, the fascination with the Shizukayas catalog will be compelling indeed.
All of the clothing featured in Wazigen Shizukayas winter collection is both stylish and functional, and the prices aren’t bad either, considering.
Prices range from 40,000 ¥ to 110,000 ¥ (US $368-$1,013) and most are between 70,000-80,000 ¥, and can be shipped internationally to the discerning Jedi. Be careful, though, because the pieces are just for a coat, or just for the pants. A full outfit could easily to 100,000 ¥. The 2019 winter collection is available at Wazigen Shizukaya’s Kyoto shop, or online at www.shizukaya.com.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to check my bank account (gulp!). I really feel that my home city of London needs a Jedi sweeping down its ancient streets …
