Following months of quiet after April’s Star Wars Celebration Chicago reveals, The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series, which is set to debut November 12 on Disney’s new Disney+ streaming service, dropped a wealth of information and a sleek trailer at the media conglomerate’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA, this afternoon. Following a day of little reveals, including a costume display and the casting of Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Lucasfilm brought the motherlode in the form of the first publicly-available trailer for the upcoming series. (Celebration Chicago saw an unfinished version of another trailer, but it was never released online.)
Catch the trailer here, and stay tuned for our breakdown!
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as the titular anonymous protagonist, alongside Gina Carano (Cara Dune) and Carl Weathers (Greef Carga). Announced today, Giancarlo Esposito portrays a villainous Imperial commander, with Taika Waititi (also directing an episode) as the mercenary droid IG-11.
The series is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King). Joining Favreau is an all-star lineup of creative talent, with Dave Filoni, supervising director of The Clone Wars, executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, and creator of Star Wars Resistance joining Favreau as an executive producer as well as directing the series’ pilot episode. Also executive producing are Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson (Suicide Squad, Avatar), with Karen Gilchrist (Iron Man 2) serving as co-executive producer.
In addition to Filoni, episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
