In July of 2018 HBO obtained the rights to Joss Whedon created The Nevers, and today the cast of the sci-fi drama was announced. The cast, unlike most Whedon creations, makes use of vastly different talent. Whedon stepped outside his usual box of actors and cast mainly British actors (many veterans of Doctor Who) – which makes a fair bit of sense because the show is set in Victorian England.

Described as an epic science fiction drama, The Nevers will focus on a group of Victorian women, called The Touched, with unusual abilities. The plot contains strong women, ruthless enemies and a world changing mission – all the elements of a great Joss Whedon adventure story!

The all star cast includes Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Counterpart), James Norton (Doctor Who,War and Peace), Tom Riley (Doctor Who, Dark Heart), Ann Skelly (Red Rock, Little Women), Ben Chaplin (Cinderella, Mad Dogs), Pip Torrens (Doctor Who, The Crown), Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds), Amy Manson (Torchwood, Once Upon a Time), Rochelle Neil (Death in Paradise), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark, The White Queen), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, Big Little Lies), and the incomparable Nick Frost (Doctor Who, Shaun of the Dead).

Joss Whedon

Joss Whedon has been a hero to nerds since the days of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Film and T.V. show) and went from strength to strength with classics such as Firefly (as well as the film Serenity), Dollhouse and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In 2008 Joss wrote, directed and produced the web series Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Whedon wrote and produced the horror flick Cabin in the Woods in 2012, the same year that he took the reins of Marvel’s Avengers. He went on to work on five other MCU films.

With a story such as The Nevers, an amazing cast and Joss Whedon at the helm as writer, director, executive producer and showrunner, it’s hard to see how this show can’t be a huge hit! The Nevers is due to hit the air in 2020 on HBO.
