‘Rise of the Resistance’ at Disneyland Galaxy’s Edge Now Delayed Until 2020

“Disney guests will traverse the corridors of a Star Destroyer on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance including a face-off with Kylo Ren when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in summer 2019 at Disneyland Resort in California and fall 2019 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. (Disney Parks).” Yeah, oops.

Galaxy’s Edge is the new ” Star Wars land” at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Disney World in Orlando, Florida, but neither land is complete. The second phase is the opening of the main attraction, called Rise of the Resistance, but now that opening, already pushed back from September to the end of 2019, is now not set to happen in Orlando until December 5 (Walt’s birthday, incidentally) and not until January 17, 2020 in Anaheim.

The addition to the two Galaxy’s Edge locations was announced last May, and both were initially slated to open at the end of this year. Currently the only ride either site has open is the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run space flight simulator, so some park-goers are a tad disappointed.

“These are not the dates we’re looking for,” a disgruntled fan cleverly wrote on Twitter.

The Rise of the Resistance ride will feature an “epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and culminates in a face-to-face confrontation with Kylo Ren.” Participants are treated to an immersive experience, thanks in part to well trained performers who help blur the lines between fantasy and reality, transporting guests from a ready room to the cockpit of a transport ship. After a starship flight experience, guests will be separated and thrown into “holding cells” for questioning. From there, it’s every man for himself to evade the First Order.

It’s easily going to be the most technologically advanced and immersive attraction the park has ever seen. To stay updated on this and other rides, check out the Disney Parks blog.
