Although Elfquest’s epic tale of Cutter Kinseeker has wrapped, it seems that his “brother in all but blood” Skywise will be getting a starring role in a new Elfquest story. ElfQuest: Stargazer’s Hunt is slated to go on sale November 13, 2019, and should be available for pre-order soon, at local and online comics shops.
This is a welcome but surprising development, since Wendy and Richard Pini, the creative force behind Elfquest, had announced in 2018 that 40 years of deadlines were quite enough, thanks, and they’d firmly and finally retired. But as so many writers can attest, sometimes your characters have other ideas.
The familiar look and feel to the Elfquest universe will be maintained, with story by Wendy and Richard Pini, script and layouts by Wendy Pini, with Sonny Strait as artist (over Wendy’s layouts) and colorist. Voice actor Strait is a known quantity, as he began work on Elfquest as Wendy Pini’s apprentice in 2001.
“I feel both thrilled and anxious as I hurtle into new writing territory with Stargazer’s Hunt. Always the ‘champion’s companion,’ Skywise is now a hero unto himself, questing for a prize no one could possibly guess,” said ElfQuest co-creator Wendy Pini. “While Cutter’s story arc on the World of Two Moons was meticulously planned, Skywise’s hunt encompasses all of space and time, and surprises await. Who can know what will befall him?”
