Amazon’s ‘Wheel of Time’ Production Adds Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred

The Wheel of Time Writer’s Room account on Twitter has just posted confirmation that Rosamund Pike has landed the role of Moiraine Damodred in Amazon’s retelling of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time saga.

Amazon has officially cast the first actor in its upcoming Wheel of Time TV series adaptation. The upcoming series will use the character of Moiraine Damodred as the lead. Pike will also serve as a producer on the show, alongside Brandon Sanderson, who wrote the final three novels in the Wheel of Time series after Jordan’s death in 2007, and by Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal.

Best known for her roles in Gone Girl, Jack Reacher and Die Another Day, Rosamund Pike’s character Moiraine Damodred is more wordly wise than the other central characters and gives a more easily accessible window into events in the world of the novels.

“The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all-time, with over 90 million books sold. Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.”

Wheel of Time begins filming in Prague in 2019.

Not the First Time ‘Wheel of Time’ has been Filmed

There have been Wheel of Time fan films, perhaps the most notable of which is Flight from Shadow, Hraefn Wilson’s 2013 production. Very true to the spirit of the book The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan, the film tells the story as presented in the first four chapters.

Long considered unfilmable, Wheel of Time appears poised to stand shoulder to shoulder with Game of Thrones as a fan favorite.
