B Cubed Press: Book Thief Steals Every Copy of ‘Alternative Theologies: Parables for a Modern World’ at MisCon

B Cubed Press publisher/editor Bob Brown reported that someone stole every copy of Alternative Theologies: Parables for a Modern World from his booth at MisCon in Missoula, Montana. Alternative Theologies is the third book in B Cubed Press’ popular Alternative anthologies series, this volume exploring religion rather than politics.

As Bob Brown himself said on Facebook:

“Well now. A new chapter for a great book. Some body, a poor misguided soul, raided my booth at Miscon last night and took EVERY COPY of this book. It offended them.

Boo Hoo. You were offended.

You proved your evangelical values. You stole my books. I’m sure you did it in the name of God. I’m sure you think you’ll have just a little more gold paving on the streets in front of your mansion. I’m sure you think it was bold.

You know what I think? So freaking what. Your pathetic effort IS FOR NOTHING. You got the ones on my rack, you even emptied my boxes. But you can’t shut it down. Because of you, I’m going to run a revigorated campaign on this book.

AND I’m going to bring a BOX back to MisCon and sell them at cost. I’m going to sell them at cost at other conventions.”

Given that only Alternative Theologies was taken, where other books were left alone, as was a tablet and some cash, Mr. Brown suspects that the thief was religiously motivated, being offended that there might be other valid theologies than their own.

Author and editor Rebecca McFarland Kyle, a frequent contributor to B Cubed Press, pointed out ” ‘Thou shalt not steal’ was not a suggestion. “

Alternative Theologies: Parables for a Modern World features poetry by Jane Yolen and Gwyndyn Alexander, essays by Star Trek‘s David Gerrold and Dr. David Brin, and short stories by Jim Wright and others.
