The CW is delivering a series we had no idea we needed this badly.
Ruby Rose plays Kate Kane, the cousin of Bruce Wayne. The Batman has gone missing, and until his return, Kate resolves to pick up where he left off. Batwoman is the hero Gotham both needs and deserves.
Rose, 33, made her debut as Batwoman in the Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds on The CW, which brought characters for Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl together.
The two-night Elseworlds crossover aired in early December, and in January, The CW issued a pilot order for Batwoman, which has since been ordered to series. This trailer is the first really solid look at the new hero, and shows tantalizing glimpses of how she becomes Batwoman and asserts her own identity as Gotham’s new guardian.
We absolutely adore the fact that for once, the television costume designers did not radically alter the look of the character for TV. Instead, they’ve adopted Batwoman’s canonical appearance in the comics to the smallest detail, and Ruby Rose looks absolutely fabulous – and of course she can act as well, easily carrying the bravado of the role while giving Kate Kane the gravitas she needs.
Batwoman will air Sundays at 8 pm on the CW, beginning this October.
