Irish actress Laura Donnelly, best known in this country for playing Jenny Fraser on Outlander will star in Joss Whedon’s new Victorian adventure, The Nevers, on HBO.  The Nevers will focus “on a group of women in the Victorian era who discover strange abilities and various conspiracies,” as our esteemed colleagues at The Mary Sue reported last summer.

Laura Donnelly will star as Amalia True in The Nevers, which Whedon described as “maybe the most ambitious narrative I’ve created.”

HBO saidThe Nevers is an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.”

Ms. Donnelly also plays Mabel Tolkien in the bio-pic Tolkien, due to be released May 10,  and Elvina in the mini-series Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands.

Although The Nevers is currently in pre-production, the names of the other actresses have not been released yet.

Joss Whedon will be teaming up with former Buffy the Vampire Slayer colleagues Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie to produce and write The Nevers.
