Warner Brothers Animation is bringing us a new Scooby Doo movie, Scooby Doo! and The Curse Of The 13th Ghost, that brings closure to an unfinished storyline.
But first, the intro to the classic series:
Now we flash forward to the present
After causing a huge mistake and capturing an innocent man, the Mystery Inc. gang are forced into early retirement. Fred, Daphne, and Velma are sad to see their days of catching bad guys wearing spooky masks come to an end. Naturally, Scooby and Shaggy are happy to put those days behind them and enjoy their early retirement. The retirement comes to an end when the crystal ball is found and Vincent Van Ghoul appears, calling Scooby and company to capture the one ghost that was never caught, the most dangerous 13th Ghost. Having been away during the time the chest was originally opened, Fred and Velma are suprised to discover that ghosts are real.
If you remembered watching the series from the 80’s, some of the show’s elements are returning. Daphne in her purple jumpsuit as well as taking the role of leader, the red van instead of the classic Mystery Machine, and Flim Flam, now grown up, joining the gang. No word on if Scrappy Doo is involved (although to some, that may be a blessing), nor if the two ghosts, Weerd and Bogel, will also appear. Not too much is revealed in this trailer, but it’s a fun idea to revisit and bring some closure to the original series.
Frank Welker continues to provide the voice of Fred Jones (the role he originated in the original Scooby Doo,Where Are You?) as well as Scooby Doo, Matthew Lillard provides the voice of Shaggy Rogers (a role he not only played in two live action films, but having taken over the voice role after Casey Kasem had retired), Grey Griffin is Daphne Blake, and Kate Micucci is Velma Dinkley. Doing a pretty good job impersonating Vincent Price is veteran voice actor Maurice LaMarche as Vincent Van Ghoul. The film is set to debut on DVD and digital download on February 5, 2019.
Listen, forget Scrappy Doo. I want to know whatever happened to Scooby Dum.
