“Star Trek: Enterprise” Star John Billingsley Beams into “Uncharted Regions”

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Swords & Circuitry Studios is very pleased to announce thatsci-fi icon John Billingsley will star in an episode of Uncharted Regions, a weird-tales audio drama series currently in production of its first season. Mr. Billingsley appears in the episode “Haven” as Dr. Jacobson, a dying man seeking peace on a remote alien world, but who finds himself pursued by a relentless agent of revenge.
“Jacobson is one of the most complex characters that we’ve developed so far for Uncharted Regions, and we knew we’d need someone who could bring a mixture of gravitas, great intelligence, and vulnerability to the role. From day one, John was our top pick to bring this character to life,” says Neal Hallford, the writer and director of the episode as well as the co-Executive Producer of the series. “Of course it was a huge bonus to us that John had played Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise. We’re all big Trekkies around here.”

“I was thrilled and flattered to be approached by the Hallfords. Their terrific script, about (in small part) the psychic toll it takes to own up to your actions, and to the results of your actions, should be great fun to work on! Can’t wait!” says Mr. Billingsley.

Mixing elements of both vintage sci-fi and more contemporary themes, “Haven” delves deeply into mankind’s essential nature. “Science fiction is always a wonderful way to turn a mirror on ourselves and ask questions about who we really are,” says co-Executive Producer Jana Hallford. “John has always done a great job at highlighting the essential humanity of his characters, even when he’s wearing the face of an alien. We’re truly looking forward to having him aboard the Aurora.”

“Haven” is the fourth of thirteen episodes being produced for Uncharted Regions’ first season. Each episode takes the listener on a fantastical voyage to a far-flung time and place, featuring characters struggling against situations beyond the limits of normal human experience.

This episode will also feature San Diego actors Fedra Ramirez as Aurora, and Randy Davison as Thorpe.

About John Billingsley

John Billingsley is an American actor with extensive credits on stage, television, and film. Born in Media, Pennsylvania, he was raised in Weston, Connecticut and studied theater at Bennington College. In 1988 he broke into film with a supporting role in Seven Hours to Judgement, and in 1990 had a small role in I Love You To Death. By the late 1990s, Billingsley was working steadily in film and in television making notable appearances on NYPD Blue, The Practice, Profiler, The Pretender, The X-Files, Six Feet Under, Roswell, and many others. In 1999, he landed his first series regular job as eager beaver Professor Miles Ballard in the short lived NBC ‘ghostbusters’ show The Others.

John joined the cast of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2001 as the charming and peculiar Dr. Phlox, and would endear himself to a whole new generation of Star Trek fans. Over the next four seasons, Billingsley would create one of the most memorable characters in the franchise’s fifty-two year history. Following Star Trek: Enterprise’s cancellation, he went on to appear in a dozens of television shows including Cold Case, The West Wing, Grey’s Anatomy, Stargate, Twin Peaks, Lucifer, and This is Us. In addition to playing notable recurring roles on True Blood and Prison Break, he had two other (short-lived) series on TV: The Nine and Intelligence. On film, he is probably most recognized for his supporting roles in Out of Time, 2012, The Man From Earth, and High Crimes. In December of 2018, he’ll return to his galaxy-hopping roots in The Orville, a heavily Star Trek-inspired hit series from Seth MacFarlane.

When he’s not busy on set, Billingsley devotes his time to the promotion of progressive causes and candidates. He lives in the hills above Los Angeles with his wife, actress Bonita Friedericy.
