“Firefly” – Fifteen Years Later

Joss Whedon’s Firefly is one of the best loved — and the shortest — science fiction television series ever made. It came to television in 2002, lasting only one season on Fox, with its episodes played out of order and bounced around from one weird time slot to the next. It was 95th in the Nielsons, but acquired a huge fan following post cancellation, enough so that in 2005 the movie Serenity was made, reuniting the original cast for one last epic story. Fox had accidentally created a cult classic, which burst forth in other media, including comics and even a tabletop game.

In honor of the 15th anniversary of Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi favorite “Firefly,” the team at Zoic Studios — the effects house that did all the visual effects for the show — has created a reel that celebrates the epic journey of the Serenity and its valiant crew. The compilation highlights some of the best VFX work on the beloved show, which launched Zoic in 2002 and earned an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Visual Effects for a Series.” They dug into the archives to create this commemorative reel, rebuilding Serenity with the original team and put together a shiny new sequence followed by an assembly of some of the most beloved and quotable moments of the franchise.

To this day, Firefly is popular at conventions, and even brings light to the annual west coast fan convention WhedonCon, which celebrates the works of Joss Whedon.

We think you’ll enjoy this wonderful visual tribute.

Thanks go to voice actor  Marc Biagi for pointing us at this one.

Shiny.
